The artists Wanjiku Mwawuganga and Esther Kamba are part of NEW FREQUENCIES. In this year's festival, they presented their works ROOTS and DILATION in which both of them, following different approaches and aesthetics, touch on topics such as motherhood, family connections and the position of the (Black) woman and the female (Black) body in society. Wishing to give us an insight into their works, they found the time to answer five questions in a joint conversation, despite their ongoing travel preparations.

Katlego Chale macht sich Gedanken zur Performance von Qondiswa James, einer Liebesgeschichte zwischen zwei prekären Arbeiter*innen im ländlichen Südafrika, in der sich Privates und Politisches vermischen. “Was wird aus dem, was auf dem Weg zu Demokratie, Gleichheit, Frieden, Fairness, Gerechtigkeit und Liebe stirbt? Was hat Liebe mit Freiheit zu tun? Und: Wer kann hier schlafen?”

Für das Festival-im-Festival NEW FREQUENCIES haben wir mit mehreren langjährigen SPIELART Künstler*innen zusammengearbeitet. Boyzie Cekwana hat dafür ein Mentor*innenprojekt entwickelt. Bei SERIES X steht die Auseinandersetzung ausgewählter Künstler*innen, die alle auch als Kulturveranstalter*innen tätig sind, mit ihrem lokalen Umfeld im Mittelpunkt.
